About Jim and Teresa

"Jim and I  were looking for an activity that would keep us closer to home, allow us to spend more time together, and be more available to our grandchildren, who live close by.  Over the years Jim had enjoyed making arbors, benches and trellises, and I had enjoyed creating garden accents and structures from cedar bentwood.

As our first grandchild was approaching his second birthday, Jim decided the moment was right to work on something he had thought about for some time…making wooden toys that would be safe and affordable, and allow opportunity for creative play.

At the birthday party we presented our grandson James Joseph with the first Train-in-a-box.  His reaction convinced us that we were on to something, so we began to develop a line of wooden toys. Thus, The  Woodshaper Shop of Maine was established!

We feel blessed to have our children and grandchildren live so close by.  James Joseph showed us how special the Train-in-a-box is. Alice, Paul and Ellie – our triplet grandchildren that live next door – will provide inspiration for more fun, safe and educational toys in the years to come."

Our Toys

All of our toys are made of pine and have a natural beeswax finish.  Our toys are fun and educational.  Our trains, planes and trucks inspire creativity and imagination - a great alternative to the video screen.

Our Furniture

Our refined rustic furniture is durable and affordable.  Our garden benches, chairs and tables are made of native white cedar and are true Maine Made quality.  They provide beauty and function to your landscape.
